With the recent engine disqualification in the PASS series event at North Wilkesboro, McGunegill Engine Performance would like to offer some insight to those with questions. MEP is the manufacturer of the 425LM crate engine, much like GM and Ford are the manufacturers of the popular 604 and Blue Oval crate engines. All 425LM engines are manufactured from MEP with a standard set of specifications and components. The engine that was found to be outside of those specifications was not originally manufactured as such. Much like with the GM604 or Ford Blue Oval (D347SR), the 425LM can be rebuilt by numerous certified engine builders, as long as they are still inside the specifications and component tolerances provided by the manufacturer (MEP) and the sanctioning bodies.
MEP would like to bring to light that the engine which was disqualified was a crate motor, not one of the McGunegill Equalizer Sealed engines that are commonly used in super late model racing. The Equalizer Sealed engines are only permitted to be built and freshened by MEP.
